Hario V60 Plastic Coffee Dripper - Clear
Product Overview
Product Overview
The Hario V60 plastic coffee dripper is a very basic pour-over brewer, but that's sorta what makes it special and has allowed it to stand the test of time. Rather than having design features that aid and impact the brew such as fewer (or more) holes, hold and release valves or complicated zero bypass mechanisms, brewing on the V60 is completely reliant on grind size and technique. It truly is just a 60° cone with the pointy end cut off that you stick the appropriate filter in.
For that reason, when people get really into pour-over brewing they often end up settling on the V60 as their de-facto brewer. The fact that the V60 does very little "work" means that it's almost infinitely adjustable, which is why so many people enjoy using it. You can speed up, slow down or otherwise manipulate the brew without the brewer getting in the way, which is very freeing. The downside is that you're also free to get mediocre results if you don't make adjustments.
That being said, we find the brewer easy to use. While it's possible to get "in the weeds" we have found that with even a modicum of care and effort we can get good, consistent results. Although it isn't strictly necessary, a gooseneck kettle will definitely make utilizing the V60 easier. In many ways, brewing with a V60 is not unlike brewing with a Chemex and it comes with a similar set of recommendations and constraints. One difference is that this brewer needs something to brew into. For most people that will just be their mug, but if you're brewing for two or making a larger batch a basic carafe makes a great addition.
In addition to this clear plastic model we also offer the V60 in ceramic also in the 02 size. Both yield similar results and the same brewing capacity, it just comes down to material preference. The ceramic model is heftier but more fragile, and it definitely requires pre-heating to combat heat transfer during brewing. The food safe SAN plastic is lighter weight, more durable and less susceptible to heat transfer during brewing, but we know some people are just trying to limit the amount of plastic in their lives. We can't blame 'em which is why we offer both.
